10 New WWE Directions After The 2020 Draft
2. Drew McIntyre Vs. AJ Styles
Drew McIntyre has been a fantastic WWE Champion. His reign has undoubtedly been hindered by the lack of fans and the general malaise of the pandemic era, but it is difficult to see how anyone could have done a better job than the one the big Scot has done. All of those who said he was perfect to carry a show have been proven right. McIntyre is an old school champion for modern times, and it works tremendously.
That reign could come to an end at Hell in a Cell against Randy Orton, but that would be a creative misstep. For one, there is no reason to put the belt on Orton, but more importantly, there is more that McIntyre can do with it yet. The draft throws up plenty of new challengers for McIntyre's crown, and none fit as perfectly as The Phenomenal One himself.
Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles is just about as fresh a matchup as you are going to find in WWE today. The two have only ever had one singles match, and that was a dark match back in May 2019. Their only interaction on television was a triple threat match in January this year and the 2020 Royal Rumble.
What's more, Styles is the perfect challenger to add further credibility to McIntyre and his title reign. The two would put on a modern-day main event banger, perfect for headlining the 2021 Royal Rumble or even a pay-per-view before then. Either way, McIntyre vs. Styles must be where RAW heads in the immediate future.
