Say what you like about Konnan the in-ring performer, but his legacy is not up for debate. The Cuban icon is one of the most legendary and important names in the modern history of lucha libre and he also had considerable success Stateside, winning championships in WCW and TNA and giving many memorable promos along the way. Not bad for the man who was supposed to be Max Moon.

It is the promos that make Konnan a valuable asset as we head into 2021. His in-ring days are long gone but K-Dogg is still as charismatic as they come, an energetic promo who knows what it takes to build a fascinating professional wrestling character. His understanding of nuance is just about as good as it gets in the wider wrestling landscape.

Like many charismatic veterans who have retired from competition, Konnan has plenty to offer the next generation of professional wrestlers. He has had issues with WWE in the past so a training or on-screen role in NXT is unlikely, but his face would certainly fit in AEW, even in some sort of advisory role.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
