6. He Would Have Stayed In WWE If WCW Didn't Get Involved
Story: There's been so much written about the Survivor Series 1997 incident in Montreal that a lot of people seem to forget that without WCW's involvement none of it would have happened. Bret signed a long term deal with WWE. This was after he had negotiations with WCW. Then Vince McMahon told him to take the WCW deal because WWE couldn't afford. That was probably a lie on WWE's part considering they paid Mike Tyson millions of dollars a few months later. There had to be another reason why Vince wanted him to go to WCW. Maybe it was Shawn Michaels telling Vince that he didn't want Bret around anymore and Vince had to choose a side, so he went with Shawn because he was the younger of the two stars. In a perfect world, Bret would have retired in WWE. Instead, he went to WCW and his career ended within a few years because Goldberg kicked him in the head too hard. It's a sad story. Why People Believe It: Bret was always a WWE guy and the fans knew that if it was up to him he never would have left. He became a star in WWE. We just assumed he would end his career there too. Should We Believe It: Yes we should Bret wanted to end his career in WWE. When he went to WCW he was 40 years old and he didn't want to have to continue his career in an unfamiliar place. He wanted to wrestle a few more years in WWE and retire.
