10 Most Notorious Bret Hart Urban Legends

3. His 2010 WWE Return Was Not Scripted With Shawn Michaels

Story: When Bret returned to WWE on January 4, 2010 it was a huge moment because it had been over 12 years since he had been in a WWE ring. What was going to happen if he approached Shawn Michaels that night? We really had no idea. The assumption was everything would be cool because of all the time that passed, but we didn't know. During their segment, they shook hands and embraced in the ring as the fans cheered. Apparently that wasn't part of a storyline and they really didn't talk much before the show. It was Bret's niece Natalya and future husband Tyson Kidd at the time that initially contacted both guys to see if they would talk. Shawn didn't even text Bret even though he had his number. When Bret got to the arena that day he hadn't talked to Shawn in person since 1997. Here's how Bret addressed it on his Facebook page after the show: "It€™s worth mentioning that although I did see Shawn earlier in the afternoon in the cafeteria, our in-ring face-off was unrehearsed and heartfelt on both sides and I can finally say that Shawn and I have finally made peace in what has been a long, draining, and sometimes pointless war of personalities." It's an interesting story because there are some people that think there's no way WWE would let them go out there without rehearsing it. Why People Believe It: It looked like a genuine moment between two old friends, so it really does feel like WWE let them do it without telling them what to say or do. Should We Believe It: Yes. Once again it's a case of Bret saying something that comes across as honest and there's really no reason for him to lie about it. There was a risk on WWE's part because maybe Bret would have punched him, but it's not like Bret in his 50s was going to do something like that in that kind of setting. As the saying goes, time heals all wounds.
