10 Most Notorious CM Punk Urban Legends

10. His World Title Reign Ended In 2009 Because Of His Wardrobe

Story: CM Punk was the World Champion on the Smackdown brand in the fall of 2009. He had just come off the best feud of that year with Jeff Hardy, who ended up leaving the company. Punk's next feud was with The Undertaker, which led to Undertaker winning the World Title at the October 2009 Hell in a Cell PPV in a HIAC match that opened the show. It was weird seeing a HIAC match as the opener, but that's what they did. It was also pretty rare to see The Undertaker working an opening match too although there were two other HIAC matches on the show. In the days leading up to the title change there were reports that Punk had heat with locker room. When they were on a tour of Europe, Undertaker told him he had to dress like a champion. Punk replied with something about how John Cena doesn't wear shirts or dress clothes. That made management think that Punk believed he was better than Cena or something to that effect. The feeling was that Undertaker beat Punk in such a decisive fashion (clean in 10 minutes) that it was punishment for Punk's comments. When the report came out, Jim Ross made a remark saying "stop the pain" in reply to the dress code violation story. Of course he worked for WWE, so he wasn't going to say if it was true or not anyway. Why People Believe It: Punk lost the title before he should have because he had a lot of momentum after the Hardy. He also had a rough time to end 2009 and most of 2010, so people believed that he had some heat after the incident. Should We Believe It: There's probably a little bit of truth to it although it makes sense that Undertaker would win it. That Undertaker story led to Shawn Michaels costing him the World Title as a way for Undertaker to grant Shawn a WrestleMania rematch in 2010, so it made sense. Punk may have had some heat although that likely wasn't the only reason why he lost the World Title. There's more to it than that.
