10 Most Notorious Ric Flair Urban Legends

1. His 1991/92 WWE Feud With Hogan Was Stopped Because Of Poor Matches

Flair Hogan Wm 8Story: Flair showed up in WWE in late 1991. Soon after his debut in WWE, he targeted Hulk Hogan. That's because they were the planned main event of WrestleMania 8. Why else would Flair come out to cost Hogan the WWE Title against Undertaker at Survivor Series 1991? It was done to set up their match. Flair gets the WWE Title at Royal Rumble 1992 and then Hogan gets his revenge at WrestleMania 8. There was even talk of Hogan retiring around that time, which is hilarious considering how much longer he wrestled. There are all kinds of theories about why things changed. There are stories that WWE did Hogan/Flair at a number of live events prior to WrestleMania 8 and the crowd didn't care as much as WWE would have liked, plus the matches sucked. Instead of the dream Hogan/Flair match, we got Flair against Randy Savage (great match) and Hogan against Sid Justice (bad match). Why People Believe It: Some wrestlers just don't have great chemistry. It's easy to believe they had poor matches although we saw them wrestle a lot in WCW a few years later. Should We Believe It: Yes to some degree, but it's not the only reason either. Plans were likely altered in part because WWE brought back Ultimate Warrior to save Hulk Hogan at the end of the night, so there is that aspect of it too. It's still a surprise that WWE didn't go with Hogan/Flair at WrestleMania, but if you watched WrestleMania 8 it was still a very good show.
