10 Most Notorious Stephanie McMahon Urban Legends

5. She Didn't Want Writers To Know About Other Wrestling Shows

Story: A former WWE writer Dr. Ranjan Chhibber gave up his medical career to go work for WWE because he was a huge fan of a product. According to Chibber he once told former VP of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis that he was a fan of his matches in All Japan Wrestling. Apparently, Stephanie McMahon found out and scolded him for it. According to Dr. Chhibber, "Stephanie told me that a WWE writer didn't need to know about other types of wrestling to be successful. She said if I let wrestlers know I had that sort of knowledge, I would come across as some type of 'super-mark' and never be able to earn their respect. I felt like it was impossible to be respected: they hated you if you didn't know wrestling, and they looked down on you if you were a fan." The story was in Power Slam magazine from 2004 and it goes back to when Chhibber worked for WWE in the early 2000s. Apparently he quit when Paul Heyman was removed from the creative team in 2003. Why People Believe It: Fans know that WWE typically likes to hire Hollywood writers and not necessarily fans of the product, so it's believable that they would get mad at a guy that came across that way. Should We Believe It: It actually sounds believable although it's ridiculous. A wrestling company should want to hire people that like wrestling and have a creative mind to come up with storylines. Instead, WWE would rather people from Hollywood without a wrestling background because they are trying to be something they are not. It's very frustrating for fans knowing that's how they operate.
