10 Most Notorious Stephanie McMahon Urban Legends

4. She Removed Paul Heyman From Writing Smackdown Because It Beat Raw

Story: There's a story from the Paul Heyman DVD that was released a few months ago where he talked about Smackdown's ratings were better than Raw in mid-late 2002 when he was the main booker on Smackdown. He also added that part of the reason he was removed from that job in 2003 was because WWE management wanted Raw to be a better show. Throughout the DVD, Stephanie also talked about the difficulties of working with Heyman in those days. She mentioned he was suspended at one point. She also added that he made life difficult for a lot of people and that's a big reason why he was removed from his job. Since she was in charge of the creative team (managing it under her father Vince), it was up to her to choose who the writers were. It seems ridiculous that somebody was doing such a good job writing television shows that they would end up getting fired for it. Once again, though, it's pro wrestling. Nothing ever seems to be too crazy of a story. Weird things happen all the time. Why People Believe It: It was on a DVD where they're supposed to say things that the majority of us don't know about. Heyman accusing Stephanie of firing him on his DVD is a strong accusation, so people are going to believe it. Should We Believe It: It's a bit of yes and no here. It seems ludicrous that they would fire somebody that was doing such a good job of writing a compelling television show. However, there may be something to it because Heyman wasn't always well liked even though everybody knew how talented he was in that job. Most likely the reason Heyman got fired was because he was difficult to work with although they could have worked with him on that and kept him in a creative position. Also, it's Vince McMahon who has final say on matters like that so he had the final decision.
