1. He Knew Chris Benoit May Have Committed Murder And Still Did Tribute On Raw
Story: This one is controversial and is a subject that Vince McMahon will never talk about again, but it's something that people that follow WWE are going to wonder forever. The June 25, 2007 edition of Raw was a three hour tribute show to the memory of Chris Benoit. For that episode of Raw, WWE aired clips of Benoit matches and also had WWE employees talking about how much they missed Benoit. It started with a message by Vince in an empty arena. The question is, did Vince know that there was a chance that Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and son Daniel as well as himself and if so, why did he continue the Raw tribute? The details about the murders were not known on Sunday night when WWE held their Night of Champions PPV and on Monday WWE knew by about 4:15pm that afternoon. By the time the evening arrived (Raw started at 8pmET that night) the details started to trickle in. Within an hour or two after Raw started airing, people knew what really happened. By the next day everybody knew. It was inconceivable to think that Benoit could do something like that and people in WWE didn't want to think that way, but due to murder being a possibility they probably should have gone in another direction. Maybe a show with taped matches would have been fine. Just don't have people talking about Benoit just in case the worst did happen. It's easy to say now. It wasn't easy back then. Why People Believe It: They like to think the worst of Vince. They think he's a heartless guy even though it's probably wrong to think that way. That's just how some people are. Should We Believe It: No. Vince likely didn't know what happened with the Benoit situation and it's wrong of people to think that he would do a three hour tribute to a guy that was a murderer. It was a very tough decision for WWE because they did the storyline near death angle with Vince the week before so they didn't want to just do another angle filled show. The whole thing was really difficult to deal with for everybody involved. Vince shouldn't be blamed for doing what they did on Raw although they probably should have done something other than a tribute show. There are certain things that WWE deserves to be criticized about with how they handled the Benoit murders, but they had no idea what was true when they had to air Raw that night. Vince probably regrets it a lot. It's not his fault, though. --- What big name wrestling star do you want to see featured next time in the Urban Legends series? The first one up was Hulk Hogan.
