Some fans have made the mistake of believing that teams like Sanity and The Authors of Pain are simply too good to fall victim to slapdash main roster booking.

But they're really not, and for evidence you only need look as recently as two or three years ago when The Ascension - who once occupied a similar spot at the top of the NXT tag team tree - made their SmackDown bow amid some lofty expectations of their own.

Viktor and Konnor actually shared the ring with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash at one point during those halcyon early-2015 days, but fast forward to the present day and they are scarcely afforded any minutes in front of the camera.

Neither of them being exactly young, they had to be called up sooner rather than later - but it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the decision was taken in haste when you look at how far they've fallen down the pecking order in the time since.
