10 Obscure WWE King Of The Ring Facts

1. William Regal's Win Was Supposed To Launch Main Event Push

By 2008, William Regal had been forced to dramatically alter his in-ring style due to injuries. Not able to feed and bump the way WWE heels are expected to for their babyface counterparts, Regal instead relied on slower, more methodical performances, ones which only helped him stand out further on the roster. Performing brilliantly, both inside the ring and on the microphone, the Englishman would win the King Of The Ring tournament on Monday Night Raw in April, 2008. According to the man himself, this was supposed to lead to a top line run in the main event mix, which would have surely been memorable. Sadly, Regal's body wasn't quite up to the task, and fans were robbed of his talents in the WWE Title hunt. It remains a mystery whether or not WWE would have chosen to put the title on him, but William Regal would have been fantastic in the company of John Cena, Triple H etc. As it stands, his stint as the brash, King Lear-like 'King' was wholly fascinating.
