Record-holder: 2020 Women’s Rumble, 12

No, you aren’t reading that wrong. The 2020 edition of the women’s Royal Rumble featured 12 superstars from NXT and NXT UK (including then-NXT commentator Beth Phoenix), meaning that when you factor in Kelly Kelly and Molly Holly and Santina Marella (yes), literally half the field was not on Raw or SmackDown’s rosters.

It’s really astonishing that so many NXT wrestlers got the nod in the 2020 Rumble, though it’s worth noting that this was at a point when WWE was really trying to sell NXT as a legit third brand, competing with AEW Dynamite on Wednesday nights. Still, more NXT women competed than either Raw or SmackDown superstars, which is incredible.

What’s really galling is that less than two years later, five of those NXT women – Toni Storm, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Chelsea Green and Mercedes Martinez – are no longer with WWE.
