10 Occupational Gimmicks From WWE's PG Era

2. The Miz - Actor

It takes a lot of talent to headline WrestleMania and then go away and eventually get majorly over once again with a new gimmick, but that is exactly what The Miz has done. After an ill-fated babyface run Miz returned to TV in June 2014 as an arrogant heel once more, but this time there was a difference: Miz was a Hollywood actor first, pro wrestler second.

This would lead to the usual model moves of trying to avoid being hit in the face and openly wrestling a safer style, and although immediate success wasn't forthcoming it was clear that The Miz had found his role and gimmick for the near future.

Laugh all you like but at this point the gimmick is reality, as Miz has indeed played key roles in a number of feature films. We aren't talking classics here, but there is no denying that if The Miz referred to himself as an actor he wouldn't be lying.

Still, The Miz's actor run is best remembered for a slightly different occupational gimmick...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
