'The Game' seemed to give up chasing Ric Flair's mythical World Title record at some point in the mid-2000s after making a big swing for the prize during his reign of terror over Monday Night Raw as the glory days of the Attitude Era faded into obscurity.

He made it to thirteen stints by 2009, but wouldn't revisit the quest after Randy Orton unseated him later that year. It coincided with a gradual move into the corporate structure of the company he married into, and tights-wearing Triple H became the exception rather than the norm.

However, another desperate attempt to get Roman Reigns over as the company's top babyface allowed Hunter one final intimate moment with his true precious.

Returning from a December sh*t-kicking by the 'Big Dog', Hunter was surprise entrant #30 in a corrupt Royal Rumble designed to dethrone new Champion Roman less than a month into his maiden run. The Authority's plot worked. Triple H dumped Reigns and eventually Dean Ambrose to snare his 14th top title, just one short of Flair's 15 since matched by John Cena.
