10 Once Awesome WWE Storylines Which Overstayed Their Welcome
9. Jerry Lawler Vs Michael Cole
Michael Cole has never been a fan favorite, due to his somewhat annoying voice and a long list of uncatchy catchphrases that he is most likely force-fed by Vince McMahon. But he took it to a whole new level in 2010.
The company leaned into his unlikeable nature hard. Really hard. They turned him heel and Raw was less wrestling and more bickering between Jerry Lawler and Cole. It was never fun to listen to and was a major put off for any hardcore fan.
However, it was pretty awesome when it was announced that they'd meet in the ring. Was it going to be a five-star classic? Hell no! But, everyone and their mother was excited to see Cole get his ass absolutely handed to him.
It was going to be a nice car crash affair that provided a good laugh and an opportunity to hit the bathroom at WrestleMania 27. And a car crash it was. The match was horrible, but it was always going to be. It was a nice little contest that allowed fans to see Cole suffer incredible pain in the form of an ankle lock and a Stone-Cold stunner.
That's where it should have ended. But it didn't. Instead, the pair met twice more. A 'Country Whipping' match and a 'Kiss My Foot' match later and it was finally done. A classic trilogy it was not.
Please don't ever get the commentators back in the ring again, WWE.
