10 Opportunities WWE’s Already Missed With Sting

2. Sting Vs Team WWF

When WCW was purchased by Vince McMahon in 2001, fans got to see the story they never thought they would see. WWF wrestlers v WCW and ECW wrestlers for the fate of professional wrestling itself. It's an idea that sounds too perfect to be true, and unfortunately it turned out to be. A lot of WCW's top stars such as Sting, Ric Flair and Goldberg had guaranteed contracts which meant they were paid to stay at home, and as such they didn't take part in the monumental Invasion story. Eventually what happened is that the only real main-eventer WCW had was Booker T, so WWF moved a number of their main eventers like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Kurt Angle over to The Alliance team. To anyone tuning in for the first time, it might even seem like a civil war within WWF, rather than the hostile takeover it was meant to be portrayed as. That would all change if they only had one man. If Sting had stood and led the charge of The Alliance, baseball bat in hand, maybe The Invasion wouldn't be viewed as such a failure. It wasn't as bad as many people remember it, but the addition of Sting (or any of those top WCW) would have added the outside invader feel that the Invasion was sorely lacking.
