10 Opportunities WWE’s Already Missed With Sting

10. Sting Vs Hulk Hogan

Yes, this did happen. It happened many times in WCW, but it never really felt right. The most famous of these encounters took place at Starrcade 1997, when after eighteen months of buildup between Sting and Hogan's nWo, the match ended in a disappointing mess. The story goes that after Hogan hit his leg drop on Sting, referee Nick Patrick was supposed to do a fast count, the match would be restarted and Sting would defeat Hogan with the Scorpion Death Lock. What actually happened was Patrick counted at a normal pace, and as such the match was restarted for no apparent reason. Sting still defeated Hogan with the Death Lock, but the match ended with Hogan verbally submitting as opposed to the more obvious tapping out. Post-WCW, Hogan had a career renaissance with WWE, and had classic, memorable matches with the likes of The Rock and Brock Lesnar. Imagine if Sting met Hogan at a WrestleMania? Classic Hogan, red-and yellow, Real American Hogan. The ultimate WWF guy vs the ultimate WCW good guy on the grandest stage of them all. It would be a match for the ages on par with Andre v Hogan or Bret v Shawn. These days, Hogan is likely to explode if he hits that leg drop, so unfortunately this match can never be.
