The complaint:

John Cena just killed seven potential main event careers in one night! D*ck!

The outcome if it were answered:

Vince McMahon was against us.

But Heath Slater was hardly the Night Slasher, was he?

The group was more intimidating holistically, through inspired booking, than they were as individuals. As a premise, all of this was so marvellous, whether they worked backwards or not: buried, browbeaten "rookies" unite under a single vision in a brutal uprising. But the group also had David Otunga in it.

WWE is mostly incapable of developing talent, but they're quite adept at recognising their weak areas, if only as pretext to not push them. And, as was revealed a few years later, Wade Barrett wasn't ready for the spot. He was a very good antagonist in 2010 - commanding presence, underrated facials, could get the job done in the ring - but he wasn't a headline-calibre star. If the shredded 2014 Barrett led that group, Vince might have been more compelled to go all in.

On principle, this was the sort of dreadful, counterproductive booking with which WWE has haemorrhaged viewers in recent years.

But the group had David Otunga in it.
