9. The Rock Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WWE WrestleMania X-Seven)

There were plenty of Stone Cold Stunners and Rock Bottoms to be found in this epic main event and Attitude Era season finale, but only because the wrestlers wanted to satisfy expectations as well as subvert them.

There was a lot to get to beyond merely determining the ownership of the WWE Championship, with Steve Austin's heel turn at the top of a stacked agenda, Smartly realising a Stunner-and-pin would get a massive pop from the Houston, Texas faithful, 'The Rattlesnake's shocking allegiance with Vince McMahon had to directly inform the finish.

The Challenger made Brama Bullognaise out of The the Champion with a steel chair, pulverising him in a manner that spoke to his clear bloody-minded (and faced, after this epic) desire to reclaim the gold. Rock's countless Stunner kick-outs looked as if his body was acting on muscle memory - the chair assault subsequently saw Austin beat the brains out Rock's every organ.
