Seemingly WCW's answer to Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg went unbeaten for 173 matches before losing to Kevin Nash. However, his abilities were not as impressive as they first seemed as a match with Steven Regal highlighted how out of depth he was when he got in the ring with someone who knew what they were doing. Regal was told to go and have a competitive six minute match with Bill, what would have been the longest match of his short career. What transpired, in the worlds of Austin, was a complete 'clustermuck'. The company that gave him everything received nothing in return. Bill was trained in WCW's own Power Plant and was shot to the top of the card in next to no time. There are countless accounts of occasions where he refused to work and who could forget how clumsy he was, not only in the ring but outside too. He single handedly ended the career of Bret Hart and who could forget when he thought his own fist would be more suitable for smashing a car window than a bat? On top of that, his promos were boring, the only two words that got you vaguely anywhere near your seat were: "Who's Next." Bill Goldberg was making more money than 95% of the WCW roster, except the rest of the WCW roster was working 95% harder than Goldberg. Let's not forget, Goldberg was a failed American Footballer who admitted he wasn't a fan growing up. He seemingly saw pro wrestling as a great way to make a 'quick buck.' His passion for money rather than wrestling was demonstrated when he sat at home on his guaranteed contract while the rest of the roster, including Messrs Hogan, Hall and Nash were in a WWE ring.
