10 Paige Matches That Prove WWE Has Misused Her In Women's Revolution
5. Paige Vs. Naomi - WWE Main Event (17 June 2014)
Before Naomi turned heel and honed her mat work, she was a dynamic and sometimes sloppy performer. With an unorthodox skill set that played up her unrivaled athleticism, there were times early on in which her offense did not always connect or, worse, was timed poorly. It had doomed matches against Eve Torres, AJ Lee, and others to a level below what she was capable of, through no lack of effort on her part.
For Paige, working with the then-Funkadactyl on the 17 June 2014 episode of Main Event presented her with a challenge of sorts: slow Naomi's frenetic pace down while delivering a good match to back up both her and NXT fans' claims that she was the best women's wrestler in the company.
Admittedly, there are still a few spots that looked bumpy but, for the most part, Paige succeeded in forcing Naomi to adjust her performance by slowing things down for a more fluid and effective match.
The contest was the first hint of what the two would be capable of later on. Over the next year, they would battle each other numerous times, nearly every match improving upon the previous one. Naomi developed into one of the most underrated performers on the women's roster while Paige continued to make the case for her starring role in the division.
Who knows where either would have been had that June '14 match been a disjointed disaster?
