Sure, Tony Khan becoming the new top dog in WWE is extremely unlikely, but who'd have thought back in 1997 that Vince McMahon would end up becoming the owner of Ted Turner's WCW?

Even with WCW completely on its ass for its final two years, it was still a monumental shock to hear the news that Vince had assimilated Turner's promotion. Once that had happened, it meant all bets were off in the wrestling business.

In terms of finances, Tony and his father Shahid certainly have the necessary money available to purchase WWE if the promotion was ever floated for sale. Would they have interest in striking such a deal? Who knows. At this point, TK is absolutely relishing his own creation, and one would think he's too smart to have his eyes on WWE and Vince's spot at the top of that particular food chain.

For wrestling fans, the hope really should be that if and when WWE does end up for sale that it manages to remain a separate entity to any other wrestling promotion. As the WCW buyout showed us, anything that brings the monopolisation of the business closer is usually a bad thing that eventually results in a formulaic, bland product.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic.
