Don't be embarrassed if you did not know David Otunga was still employed by WWE. Odds are that most of the company's highest ranking officials do not know, either, providing the former Harvard Law student with a stay of execution. Over the last three years, the one-time Nexus member has done absolutely nothing of note on WWE programming. Outside of eating the occasional Brogue Kick from Sheamus in the summer of 2012, he has been absent from television, his only appearances coming in video packages detailing the company's numerous charitable causes and Otunga's involvement in them. At this point, the company clearly keeps the jacked Superstar around because of his wife Jennifer Hudson and her connections to mainstream media and celebrities. He serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever beyond that. His in-ring work was abysmal and his character never really fit in with the rest of the roster or the tone of the product. When he was removed from television, most understandably assumed he had lost his job in one of the company's mass firings. Instead, he remains part of the roster, for reasons that have nothing to do with this effectiveness as an on-air performer.
Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
