10 Pivotal Mick Foley Moments From The Monday Night Wars
8. The Jim Ross Interviews
Despite a strong debut feud against the Undertaker and a career best pay-per-view headline match against Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley still didn't feel like Vince McMahon was fully invested in him as a top WWE superstar. Mankind had come in as a monster heel and it'd only be a matter of time before he'd lost to all the top faces and would begin his descent down the card like so many others before him.
In the summer of 1997, Jim Ross began a series of Interviews with Mankind to find out more about the troubled character. They were a huge success, retconning him from a cartoonish freak into a misunderstood outcast and paving the way for the Dude Love reveal that would sow his comedic seeds for the future. It wouldn't be long before he was tagging with Stone Cold Steve Austin and winning his first gold in the company.
It was during filming of these interviews that Vince was finally recruited to the cause. Taking a break from the filming, Foley heard a deep, raspy voice say, "this is fabulous!". That was it. Vince McMahon was a Mick Foley guy and things were looking up.
