This will no doubt be one of the lesser known moments on this list but the its ramifications are indicative of Foley's intestinal fortitude. The night after the notorious Montreal Screwjob, Foley was so upset by the way Bret Hart had been handled he voluntarily no-showed Raw. Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart were told to take the night off while many others expressed their desire to quit after thinking long and hard about what Vince's actions meant for them. It was only Foley who actually had the courage of his convictions however.

Foley hadn't been involved in the political war leading up to the fateful night but felt that Bret was a man of his word and no one deserved to be treated the way he had been. He was surprised when he found out he'd been the only one to do so. When he returned to work it was to newfound appreciation from many of his colleagues and Bret Hart especially has viewed him extremely highly ever since.

"It was never held against me. In fact, I think Mr McMahon respected it", he said in a 2014 interview on the subject. That respect would grow into the close friendship the two would enjoy later.
