10 Pivotal NWO Moments On WWE Network's WCW Monday Nitros

1. Scott Hall Declares War (May 27th, 1996)

Obviously, the Hulk Hogan heel turn is what put the nWo on the map as a historic group that would be remembered for the rest of time. However, without this moment succeeding the way it did right out of the gate, you could say that the entire nWo storyline could have been dead in the water. Wrestling fans will always remember where they were and what they were doing when Scott Hall showed up on Nitro. Eyes bugged out and jaws dropped when he was spotted walking down the stairs and making his way to the ring. We had seen wrestlers "jump ship" before, but even before Hall's promo, you could just sense this was something different. Hall declaring "war" on WCW was the perfect storyline advancement. We had every reason to believe that Hall was sent by the WWF, instead of him being a contracted WCW employee cutting a worked promo. To say that added layers of intrigue would be a huge understatement. Everyone began spinning the wheels in their heads about where things were headed. We anticipated more people from the WWF showing up on Nitro in the coming weeks. We wanted to see what WCW's response would be. We started dreaming about some massive "Supercard", pitting WWF wrestlers and WCW wrestlers in the biggest pay-per-view event of all-time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLt7oSVJuSM With a single arrival, and a single promo, Scott Hall and WCW helped to change the face of the business forever. Even though he had won the Intercontinental Title four times during his reign with the WWF, this was Hall's biggest moment in the spotlight. He took the ball, and he ran with it, as the saying goes. As mentioned, the entire nWo storyline could have been a bust from the beginning if Hall screwed up his promo, or if fans didn't buy into what he was saying. Even if it's just for that, he deserves to be immortalized in wrestling history.
