10 Plot Holes From WWE History You Probably Missed

10. Triple H As SummerSlam's Special Guest Referee

WWE.comWWE.comTriple H was appointed the Special Guest Referee for the main event of last year's SummerSlam - Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. The match would become to be an instant classic, with the COO turning on the triumphant Bryan to kickstart the Authority angle that still runs today, almost a year later. Obviously, the logic was that putting Triple H in the match as the referee would be the perfect segue for him to surprise fans with his betrayal of the ultrapopular babyface, but unfortunately the kayfabe logic of his inclusion of the match was non-existent. A match of such a grand caliber must, the idea was, feature an official who's able to not succumb to pressure and call the match fairly and straight down the middle. The Cerebral Assassin was appointed that position. The problem was that Triple H was the special guest referee in SummerSlam 2011's main event clash between Cena and CM Punk, which the Straight Edge Superstar would win - after Triple H counted the 1-2-3 despite the fact that Cena's leg was on the rope. The whole point of the angle was that Triple H was putting himself in positions he wasn't fit to be in, as that would lead into a match with Punk. Knowing that, it's a slap in the face to any thinking fan to suggest that the COO was the right man for the job two years later.
