"That's why I kicked your leg outta' your leg!".

That regrettable line from the '94 Royal Rumble aside, everything about Owen Hart's heel turn on brother Bret worked. The jealous younger sibling act he played was a gas from minute one, and Owen was some worker between the ropes on top of that new-found characterisation.

As good as he was though, there was just no way that the youngest Hart was ever going to headline WWF pay-per-views without turning rogue. He needed the Bret story to ignite his federation career, and then he was good to go after that. Matches at WrestleMania X and SummerSlam 1994 remain two of the best ever though, and they owe a lot to Owen's bratty antics.

He'd been in the shadow of Bret for years, but now stood solo on his own merits. Owen managed to keep that momentum going to become a hated heel in feuds with Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and others for years following his turn.
