10 Positive Signs Going Into WrestleMania 33
5. A Revolution Continues
Say what you will about the booking leading into both Women’s Championship matches, but it sure is good to see WWE’s female talent being featured on the card. The fact that the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, and Mickie James have been corralled into multi-person matches shows that WWE still has a long way to go before its women are being presented similarly to its male superstars, but that doesn’t mean things haven’t improved over the last few years.
Last year’s Women’s title match stole the show, but the only other non-male match on the card (the pre-show, technically) was a lazily put together tag match between Team Total Divas and Team Bad and Blonde, the sole purpose of which was to plug a reality show.
That WWE felt the need to cram its hard working and talented female athletes into WrestleMania at least shows that their efforts are appreciated to some degree, and although their feuds might not be as focused as a lot of their male counterparts, they still feel important and worth watching; a huge step up from the ‘bathroom break’ matches of old.
