10 Positive Signs Going Into WrestleMania 33
4. Diverse Match Ups
Although a lot of people are unhappy about the pairing of part-timers Goldberg and Lesnar, the rest of WrestleMania 33’s card is surprisingly diverse in terms of matching up contrasting wrestlers of different styles, backgrounds, and career trajectories.
Shane vs. AJ, Owens vs. Jericho, Reigns vs. Undertaker and Orton vs. Wyatt all feel like potential torch passing matches, wherein an older, more established WWE Superstar will defend their territory against a younger upstart. It’s a chance to put the stars of tomorrow over whilst capitalising on the big name value of an Undertaker, Jericho, or Triple H.
Then you have the RAW Tag Team Championship match between two Japanese stalwarts, two fresh NXT (or original WWE) guys, and two mainstays of the European indie scene-turned WWE workhorses.
Fans were outraged with the idea of Randy Orton vs. John Cena in the main event after Orton won the Royal Rumble, but there aren’t really any matches of that ilk (stale pairings we've seen time and time again over the last decade) on the card this weekend. The closest thing is Cena & Nikki vs. The Miz & Maryse, and even that has the extra inter-gender element and the Total Divas/marriage storyline surrounding it.
