10 Positives Heading Into WWE Backlash 2016
3. Diverting The Attention From Daniel Bryan
Arguably the only negative of The Miz’s promo (if you could
even call it a negative) was that it was aimed at a wrestler who’s no longer
active. Naturally, that poses a bit of a problem in terms of giving us an
actual pay-off to the angle.
Thankfully though, the company set about rectifying this by diverting the focus away from The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan and towards the Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler instead. Obviously this was never going to be easy, but with Ziggler picking up on Bryan’s accusations of Miz being “soft” and a “coward” they’ve at least gone some way towards achieving that.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Ziggler is a like-for-like replacement for Bryan. In fact, I’m not sure anyone is really. However, I am saying that it’s good to see them maintaining that momentum that Bryan helped to build whilst averting the attention to someone who’s still a full-time wrestler.
Also, The Show-Off was probably the perfect candidate for the role, given that he too has something to prove in light of his recent failure at SummerSlam. A win-win situation on this one then.
