10 Potentially Awesome WWE Feuds Which Failed To Deliver
4. Cody Rhodes Vs. Goldust
Everybody knew how much WWE dropped the ball with this feud after it happened. Then to rub salt in the metaphorical wound, AEW showed them exactly how amazing a feud between the Rhodes brothers really could be.
The Stardust character had run its course long before the tensions between the brothers and a big blow-off WrestleMania match between Goldust and a heel Cody Rhodes, NOT Stardust, could certainly be a match of the year candidate. Both men seemed more motivated than they had been in years to make it work and according to them, both pitched many ideas for different avenues the feud could go down. One intriguing idea even involved Cody developing a split personality, this being four years before The Fiend came to town.
As much as the performers were invested, the company just didn't seem to be. The feud was mostly built through WWE.com exclusive segments and their pleas for a WrestleMania match, even on the Pre-Show, were denied and the contest was relegated to Fastlane.
The match itself was just plain. Not horrible, but it didn't set the world on fire like it could have and like it did the second time around four years later.
