10 PPV Main Events That Killed WCW

6. First Blood Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match: Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair - Uncensored 1999

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x54swh_uncensored-1999-hulk-hogan-vs-ric-f_sport If it was not clear already that Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair could no longer hang atop the card in the main event, the fact that WCW went through the trouble to pile stipulations and gimmick matches on top of each other for their world heavyweight title match in March 1999 at Uncensored certainly served as evidence. In what was a horribly contrived, typically bad match, David Flair and Torrie Wilson interfered, Then Arn Anderson made his presence felt, wiping out the privileged son and sending his squeeze packing. Referee Charles Robinson was bumped, of course, and Flair won the match via pin while trapping Hogan in a Figure Four leg lock. Now stop for a moment and think about this: Hogan lost via pinfall. In a FIRST BLOOD MATCH! We have already touched upon Hogan and Flair's inability to follow anything remotely resembling a complicated stipulation earlier in this list but the fact that someone booked that finish, in a match that clearly states that the only way to win is to make your opponent bleed, is proof that attention to details was another element of WCW's demise. There was only so much bad wrestling and nonsensical booking that fans could be asked to sit through before switching to the competition. At a time when fans were leaving for the brighter pastures and edgier content of WWE, this was hardly the main event WCW needed to convince them to stay.
