10 PPV Quality Matches WWE Gave Away For Free On Weekly TV In 2021

7. Seth Rollins Vs. Kevin Owens Vs. Rey Mysterio Vs. Finn Bálor - RAW October 25

Just look at the talent in that match. How could it fail? Four of the best workers in the company, arguably the four best, coming together on an episode of RAW in October to decide who should face Big E for the WWE Championship. As we all know, Brock Lesnar ended up winning the subsequent WWE Championship match, because of course he did. WWE gonna WWE.

Leaving the cynicism aside for a moment, this four-way ladder match was a fantastic watch. All four men worked their chaps off, putting on a tremendous TV main event that showed just how desperately each of these men wanted a shot at the most prestigious belt in wrestling history. Rollins eventually picked up the win, but not before putting future buddy Kevin Owens through a ladder bridge in a particularly gnarly spot.

Has WWE run the ladder match gimmick into the ground? Absolutely. Almost all WWE ladder matches are an exercise in box-ticking at this point, trope-heavy spotfests that aren’t helped by the excessive glee of whoever happens to be commentating at the time. Was this one of the better WWE ladder matches in recent memory? You better believe it was.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
