10 Predictions For NXT After TakeOver: San Antonio
4. Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong
NXT has finally become glorious. With Roode's toppling of the NXT Champion, he has reached the pinnacle of the developmental brand and like former TNA veteran Samoa Joe, he could be atop this seat for a long time while NXT carves out their next worthy champion.
In the meantime, Roode could engage in rivalries with some developing personalities to keep his title run interesting. Roderick Strong's main card victory at TakeOver gives him the most momentum of any babyface currently on the roster, and while his character needs some honing he could hugely benefit from a title feud with the champion. NXT fans need a reason to care about Strong besides his ability to break backs, and going against a smarmy but popular heel like Roode could allow Strong to work out the kinks in his character and develop an emotional connection with the crowd.
Though he may be slated for big things, a loss to Roode would not derail things for Strong. Finn Bálor did not defeat Kevin Owens the first time he challenged for the NXT Title, but he did so due to a lack of other top babyfaces. Strong could easily occupy this role while the brand works out what they have with Roode as champion and Strong as challenger.
