Charlotte, Bayley, Nia Jax and Sasha Banks will likely dominate the Raw Women’s Championship scene for the bulk of 2017, but SmackDown’s scene looks a little less certain. Sure, they’ve got Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss, and Nikki Bella can probably be elevated, but the rest of the division aren’t even close to contention. The likes of Carmella and Natalya get airtime every week, but their credibility is too low, and they’ll likely remain middling players in the new year.

Enter Mickie James.

The former Divas Champion is expected to resume her WWE career on SmackDown in January, and she’ll prove to be a fantastic signing. Fresh off a tremendous match with Asuka at TakeOver: Toronto, Mickie is still one of the best female workers around, and she brings bags of experience to the table. She’ll immediately be one of the best wrestlers in her division, and she might just prove to be WWE’s biggest signing of 2017.

Now entering her 18th year as a professional wrestler, Mickie should prove a valuable mentor to WWE’s younger female stars. From Carmella and Naomi to Billie Kay and Petron Royce, there are countless performers who’d benefit from working with her, and when she eventually retires, Mickie should slot nicely into a coaching role. Whether she’s competing for gold or not, Mickie looks all set for a huge 2017.
