The Hurt Business have been a modest 2020 creative success story for WWE and especially Royal Rumble returnee Montel Vontavious Porter. MVP was only supposed to have a cameo in the battle royal and something of a retirement match against Rey Mysterio the following night.

To be the boss of a dominant heel group on Raw is a testament to his outstanding ability behind the microphone, but in the increasingly fragile environment that is modern-day WWE, The Hurt Business can go from proper legacy players to global b*stard-era footnotes unless they start making all the screen time count.

Bobby Lashley's unshakable grip on the United States Championship has been encouraging, but an eventual victory over The New Day will be the real turning point. From there, it falls to potentially MVP himself to try and complete the group's own golden prophecy with a WWE Championship victory. The bigmouth leader falling short can inform their eventual breakup down the road, but the whole arc should be more about the journey than the destination anyway.
