10 Problematic WWE Storylines That Have Aged HORRIBLY

7. Kane & Lita & Matt Hardy & Lita & Edge

This one never gets okay.

Time passes and things change, but this was absolutely repulsive then and is even worse now. The long version is something WWE themselves try to hide within the Network's vast archives, but here are the gross cliff notes on the grossest timeline for four television characters between 2004 and 2005.

Matt Hardy wants to propose to girlfriend Lita, but she has news of her own - she's pregnant. Bad news is, it's Kane's kid. 'The Big Red Machine' decided he wanted a baby and made no secret of his desire and willingness to r*pe Lita in order to get one. Hardy doesn't take too kindly to that and fights for her honour, but very literally loses it in a brawl that effectively had her consent of marriage on the line. Forced into becoming Kane's wife, Lita understandably despises her husband, until they're bonded by a mutual hatred of Gene Snitsky, who caused her to accidentally miscarry. Kane somehow becomes a babyface from this despite his own repulsive wrongdoings, and several months later, Lita joins up with Kane's rival Edge because she actually likes him and this is apparently a measure of revenge.

This of course is when a grim fictional tale is folded into a difficult reality - Matt Hardy revealed that Edge and Lita began an affair in real life, resulting in fans hijacking matches on his behalf long before the two were paired on-screen. Kane - comfortably the most evil of every character in this sordid tale - ended things as the babyface default surrogate Matt Hardy figure until 'V1' himself returned from an ill-judged firing to turn everything back into a storyline.

A wretched time for everybody, us included.
