10 Problems WWE Has With Modern WrestleManias
9. People Don't Like The Babyfaces
Perhaps this aforementioned fan division comes down to one very simple truth: WWE’s babyfaces are almost universally terrible. The New Era is still struggling to escape the shadows of both the Attitude Era (when heroes were edgy and somewhat unpleasant) and the PG Era (when heroes were polite, proper and family friendly), and has landed somewhere in between the two.
Case in point: when Seth Rollins was a heel, he was an easily understandable and three dimensional character. Since turning face, he’s veered between contrasting motivations, only to become a wise-cracking, catchphrase spouting nerd, to borrow from a certain Doctor Gallows’ phrasebook. It didn't help that during his and Roman Reigns' feud with Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, the latter pair were the more charming and entertaining duo. When your heels are more likeable than your babyfaces, you have a serious problem on your hands.
The very definition of a ‘WrestleMania Moment’, at least from the perspective of the fans, is seeing a beloved babyface overcoming the odds in service of championship glory. That can’t happen when very few people actually want to see them win.
