WWE announced Lesnar versus Orton as SummerSlam's main event while the Beast Incarnate was busy preparing for his return to the octagon, so nobody can say this was a last-minute addition to the card.

The build-up was intense, the pair largely being kept apart by the brand split in the weeks leading to the pay-per-view, and fans went into the match expecting something big. To be fair, they got it - but the referee calling for the bell after Orton had his skull smashed open by Lesnar's elbow perhaps wasn't what they had in mind, and it really needed a follow up match for the sake of closure.

Instead, the Viper went straight into a program with Bray Wyatt, and when Lesnar finally returned he hooked up with Goldberg without any fear that a patched up Orton would be out for revenge. Sound familiar?
