After The Shield split, Roman Reigns became the top babyface in the company, Seth Rollins became the top heel, and Dean Ambrose became - arguably - the most popular man in WWE. Still, Reigns was the priority, and he was booked in a title match against Rollins at Survivor Series 2015. That, ultimately, was supposed to serve as "The Guy's" coronation as WWE Champion.

Rollins was forced to vacate the title after suffering a knee injury, though, and a subsequent 16-man tournament for the title was held, concluding at Survivor Series. The "final four" at the show were Reigns, Ambrose, Kevin Owens, and Alberto Del Rio, with most fans banking on a Reigns-Ambrose final.

With Rollins - The Authority's chosen champion - on the shelf, the stage was set for a redux of the finish to Survivor Series 1998. The Authority could have helped Ambrose win the title, turning him heel and setting up a new villain to take Rollins's place. It would have been a great swerve, with Ambrose stabbing Reigns and the fans in their backs.

Instead, Reigns beat Ambrose cleanly, then Money in the Bank winner Sheamus cashed in and beat "The Guy" for the title. That turn of events was widely criticized, and Survivor Series was panned as the worst PPV of the year.

Was there ever any talk of turning Ambrose to help get Reigns over as a babyface? Or was what we saw the only plan Ambrose ever heard? How would he have reacted to having had to turn heel then?
