10 Questions With TNA's Ethan Carter III

8. Rumours Of TNA's demise

Ethan Carter Sting

For the past 13 years or so, we’ve heard experts tell us that TNA is on the verge of closing, most recently because of rumours of TNA’s TV deal being cancelled. I’ve never known one company have so many rumours circulate about it closing down, and yet the company keeps running. Do these constant rumours affect the atmosphere backstage?

As far as backstage morale goes, there’s a lot of people on the roster, a lot of good, talented people who are trying very, very hard to put on a great product for the fans, giving what they’re giving, and for people to spew that sort of negativity…I think that’s what hurts the most, because you’re trying to create a reputation and no matter how great you create that reputation, something else comes up, a falsehood or lie that’s believed, because, you know, there’s not a lot of integrity or accountability in wrestling journalism so to speak. There’s a lot of hearsay, a lot of rumours being splashed, but as you said, it’s been going around for 13 years, and I’m sure for the next 13, we’ll be hearing the same thing. There’s a lot of great talent busting their ass to create something good, who are tired of the constant stigma.

I think individuals are motivated by their own things, so I don’t know about us as a group. It’s not like we’re fighting against the powers that be, because it’s not a real power, it’s an annoyance more than something you’re fighting against. It’s a very small but vocal minority saying negative things.
