10 Questions WWE Doesn't Want You To Ask After Raw (Nov 16th)

8. Is The Intercontinental Championship Just A Prop?

While it's great to see Kevin Owens in the semi-finals at Survivor Series, the fact he's competing for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at that event seriously damages the Intercontinental Championship. After all, him having this match not only shows that the title he currently holds is nowhere near as important as the one he'll be fighting for, but also means he won't be defending the belt on Sunday. Now, common sense obviously says that the world title is a more significant prize than the Intercontinental one, but if the company wants fans to take these midcard championships seriously, then they need to build them up to the point where they're as relevant as the big one. Owens being in the World Title picture is awesome, but as Intercontinental Champion, he should be defending that and making it a draw in its own right (not an afterthought in a hastily thrown together tournament). When you look at what John Cena did with the United States Championship, it's easy to see that the belt benefited in a major way. By the time Seth Rollins won it at SummerSlam, it felt just as important as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and the simple fact is that Owens competing for that instead of the one he holds makes it look like a prop that is meaningless in comparison. Of course, with such a limited roster right now, that might just explain why things have gone this way.
