It’s going to be really tough to top this record, unless someone literally cashes in the briefcase immediately following the ladder match.

At the first Money in the Bank PPV, Kane won the SmackDown briefcase, defeating a field that included Christian, Matt Hardy, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, and Cody Rhodes.

Later in the PPV, Rey Mysterio fended off a challenge from Jack Swagger – the MITB winner at Mania that year, whom Rey had defeated for the World Heavyweight Championship a month earlier. No sooner had that match ended than Kane emerged to cash in his briefcase and end Mysterio’s reign at four weeks. Kane would go on to finally get a proper run as a world champion, holding the belt for five months.

Could the winners of Sunday’s Money in the Bank contract ladder match follow suit and cash in later that night? Or could he – or she – follow in Seth Rollins’ footsteps and hold onto the briefcase until WrestleMania?
