3. Continue Cena's Weekly Open Challenge
This should go without saying, really: but John Cena brought a good deal of prestige back to the United States Championship with his weekly open challenge on RAW, and (hero or villain) Del Rios character loses nothing by continuing the tradition started by his predecessor. As a babyface, Del Rio gets as much out of it as Cena did, which is considerable: he went from being a drag on RAW to being one of the more entertaining segments on the show in a matter of a fortnight. As a heel, Del Rio can add to his heat by pretending to run an open challenge, but ending up either screwing them over to win or accepting matches with challengers that are clearly beneath him - when a real babyface challenge turned up and Del Rio couldnt get out of it, the match would have heat regardless of who his opponent was. And of course theres the inevitable moment that Del Rio issues the challenge and Cena himself comes out to answer it although Im not keen on the idea of a proper, long-running feud between the two men, a good, intense match on free television wouldnt do any harm, and Cena doesnt necessarily have to walk away with the title again.
