Second only to Lex Luger's lengthy spell with the title two years earlier, Ravishing Rick Rude banked one of the greatest ever reigns of WCW's secondary title following a sensational 14-month run with the prize.

Defeating WCW stalwart Sting in November 1991, Rude was less than a month into his WCW career when he was chosen to unseat 'The Stinger' to solidify his place as the leader of Paul E. Dangerously's red hot 'Dangerous Alliance' stable.

As United States Champion, Rude lead the Alliance into one of the greatest matches of all time, as the group suffered defeat against 'Sting's Squadron' in the finest iteration of the famed 'WarGames' stipulation.

Splitting from the Alliance with Madusa, Rude would continue on defending the title, engaging in absorbing feuds with Nikita Koloff and Ron Simmons before a neck injury forced the vacation of the title despite his course to likely break the mammoth longevity record set by Luger.

Upon return from his time on the shelf, Rude would fail to regain the title against new champion Dustin Rhodes, but had raised his profile during his time with the title, quickly ascended to a top level feud with Ric Flair after losing a lengthy programme against 'The Natural'.
