Over the years, Vince McMahon has made a habit of courting controversy, but it's fair to say that the Chris Benoit Raw Tribute Episode is something even he would rather we all forgot about.

To be fair, this was done - at the time - with the best of intentions. The company, learning the news that Benoit and his family had died, simply wanted to celebrate the career of someone they regarded as an exemplary employee.

In hindsight, of course, it seems absurd that they should talk about something as trivial as someone's aptitude for pretend-fighting after they've committed an act as heinous as this - but they simply didn't know all the facts when they went to broadcast (and ignoring it entirely wasn't really an option).

It was, simply, the darkest chapter in WWE history.
