9. Jeff Hardy's House Fire

After finally reaching the summit of WWE in late 2008 after overcoming a host of personal problems, Jeff Hardy entered in to a feud with his brother Matt in early 2009, who took credit for trying to run Hardy off the road in his car, and permanently disfigure him by causing fireworks to malfunction during his entrance.

But it wasn't the only bout of pyromania the older Hardy would lay claim on.

Back in March of the prior year, Jeff had been suspended for a violation of the WWE Wellness Policy. Coming as he was as over as a solo star as he'd ever been, the situation was made worse when it was revealed he was set to win Money in the Bank at WrestleMania 24. The 60-day hiatus would end any hope of that.

During his time away, further disaster struck when his home burnt down due to faulty wiring, ruining all his possessions and tragically killing his dog Jack.

The brothers would tie this genuinely heartbreaking situation into their rivalry, when Matt would claim he was responsible for the whole thing, freely admitting to arson and canicide just to destroy his more successful sibling.
