2. No Clear Feud
Without the prospect of an ongoing rivalry with John Cena over the United States Championship, Del Rio has languished in meaningless midcard matches since his return. He has lacked the rub of being paired with a strong babyface performer, whom he could have used to emphasise his villainous tendencies and help to get his heel persona over with fans. Instead, Del Rio has interacted with different performers every week, which has left him directionless. The situation wasn't helped by the use of Del Rio in the WWE Championship tournament. There was very little chance that the Mexican star was ever in the frame to win the title, so it would have made far more sense to manipulate the tournament bracket in such a way that Del Rio could've left the tournament with an ongoing feud ready to go. The US Championship is such a strong prize within the realms of kayfabe that it's bizarre to see that no one on the roster seems to have much desire to challenge for it. Hopefully Del Rio's simmering feud with Jack Swagger can heat up and turn the tide. Given that Swagger has spent most of this year either on the bench or working on Superstars, though, it's tough to hold out much hope.
