10 Reasons Alberto Del Rio's WWE Return Is Failing

1. Nonsensical Mex-America Storyline

Despite the varied issues with the way Alberto Del Rio has been portrayed since his return to WWE, much of his current malaise can be traced back to one horrible portmanteau word €“ Mex-America. The concept of two nations united in ideology, despite their differences, is an intriguing one on paper, but has been mangled and neglected by the writing team to the point that it is now a confusing mess. Every week on both Raw and SmackDown, Del Rio and Zeb Colter speak for approximately five minutes. They must have had at least half an hour of television time by this point to try and explain the concept of Mex-America to the WWE fans, but they have utterly failed. Rather than developing the reasons for their pairing, Del Rio and Colter spend their promos firing lazy shots at the audience in order to secure the cheap pop. It's a prime example of WWE's short-term thinking. The Mex-America gimmick is not working for either Del Rio or Colter. It is holding them both back in terms of either getting over after long absences from WWE television. The best thing for both performers would be to drop this mess of an idea and return to what they are best at and what helped them reach the top of professional wrestling in the first place.
